Allah. The personal name of the one true God
in Islam. Nothing else can be called Allah. The term has no plural or
gender. From the 112th sura of the Qur’an: "In the name of God, the
Merciful, the Compassionate. Say (O Mohammad) He is God the One God, the
Everlasting Refuge, who has not begotten, nor has been begotten, and
equal to Him is not anyone."

Aren't there some verses of the Qur'an that condone "killing the
infidel"?
Answer: The Quran
commands Muslims to stick up for themselves in a defensive battle --
i.e. if an enemy army attacks, then Muslims are to fight against that
army until they stop their aggression. All of the verses that speak
about fighting/war in the Qur'an are in this context.
There are some specific verses that are very often "snipped" out of
context, either by critics of Islam discussing "Jihadism," or by
misguided Muslims themselves who wish to justify their aggressive
tactics.

Question: What does the Qur'an say about terrorism?
Muslims
claim that their faith promotes justice, peace, and freedom. Critics
of the faith (and some Muslims themselves) cite verses from the Qur'an
that seem to promote violent, armed warfare. How can these different
images be reconciled?
Answer: The entire Qur'an, taken
as a complete text, gives a message of hope, faith, and peace to a faith
community of one billion people. The overwhelming message is that
peace is to be found through faith in God, and justice among fellow
human beings.

In the Qur'an, the marriage relationship is described as one with "tranquility," "love" and "mercy." Elsewhere in the Qur'an, husband and wife are described as "garments" for each other (2:187). Garments offer protection, comfort, modesty, and warmth. Above all, the Qur'an describes that the best garment is the "garment of God-consciousness" (7:26).
Muslims view marriage as the foundation of society and family life. In a practical aspect, Islamic marriage is thus structured through legally-enforceable rights and duties of both parties. In an atmosphere of love and respect, these rights and duties provide a framework for the balance of family life and the fulfillment of both partners.
General Rights
To be treated with honor, kindness, and patience.
To enjoy intimate relations with each other.
To have children, by God's will.
To keep one's legal and personal identity after marriage, retaining one's own family name, inheritance rights, property, mahr, etc.
General Duties
To be faithful to the marriage bond.
To strive to be attractive to one's spouse.
To assist and support one another, and to resolve disputes amicably.
The husband has the duty to provide all physical maintenance of the family (housing, clothing, food, medical care, etc.).

Many Muslim
countries have held massive demonstrations against the US church's
intent.
A US church's plan to burn copies of
Islam's holy book on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks
has ignited worldwide condemnation.
Top US commander in Afghanistan General David Petraeus warned on
Monday that the action could put the lives of American soldiers involved
in wars overseas at risk.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also hit out at the Dove
World Outreach Center's plan, stressing that it is "disrespectful and
disgraceful."
The US State Department also called the move "un-American," while
the US Attorney General Eric Holder called the idea "idiotic and
dangerous."
On Tuesday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs also expressed
concern over the plan saying that "any type of activity like that, which
puts our troops in harm's way would be a concern."
Despite the rhetorical condemnation of the plan by US official for
apparent consequences on American soldiers overseas, no legal measure
has been sought to block the offensive move, which is widely considered
as racist.
The Vatican and NATO have also blasted the Florida church's scheme.
Many Muslim countries, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and
Indonesia have already held massive demonstrations against the US
church's intent.
Despite the global outrage, Pastor Terry Jones, the organizer of the
event, said he will go ahead with his plan.
He claims that the torching of the Quran "will send a clear message
to the radical element of Islam."
Interestingly, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has defended
the Florida pastor's decision.
While calling the burning of the Muslim holy book "distasteful," he
said that he permitted the act because of his commitment to freedom of
speech. "The First Amendment protects everybody," Bloomberg said on
Tuesday. "You can't say that we're going to apply the First Amendment to
only those cases where we are in agreement."
Despite claims that America embraces all religions and faiths,
anti-Muslim sentiments have been on the rise across the United States.
Arson attacks against mosques are growing; American Muslims receive
frequent threats because of their religious identity.

Muslims march
around the world to condemn the plan of torching the holy Quran.
Vatican has labeled the Florida-based church's decision
about torching the Islamic holy book to mark the 9/11 terrorist attacks
as an 'outrageous' decision.
"Each religion, with its respective sacred books, places of worship
and symbols, has the right to respect and protection," the Vatican's
Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue said in a statement on
Wednesday, acknowledging that the news has caused "great concern" with
the council, AFP reported.
The council said that such moves could not make terrorists abandon
the "deplorable acts of violence," such as the one committed on
September 11, 2001 on US soil.
"Each religious leader and believer is also called to renew the firm
condemnation of all forms of violence, in particular those committed in
the name of religion," it added.
The US officials have, similarly, condemned the plan to burn the
Quran, saying it could provoke uproar around the Muslim world and put at
risk the lives of the US soldiers fighting in overseas wars.
Despite the rhetorical condemnation of the plan by the US officials,
however, no legal measure has been sought to block the blasphemous move
proposed by the US church.
The plan, which is widely considered as a symbol of racism, has
already drawn international condemnation with Muslims launching protest
rallies around the globe.
The Dove World Outreach Center, a small church in Gainesville,
Florida, has announced plans to burn Quran on the ninth anniversary of
the 9/11 terrorist attacks that left more than three thousand people
dead.
